Terminology Glossary

(For the uninitiated: Terms are in order of when they show up. Beware of spoilers - it might be better to check this after you finish the fic.)

Unsolicited Concrit: Unsolicited = Unasked for; Concrit = Constructive criticism, which is criticism intended to be helpful but can be harsh and demoralising if unwanted,

R&Ring: A hangover from Fanfiction.net, meaning 'Read & Review'ing. Fanfiction.net, another fanfiction site, uses 'Reviews' in the place of AO3 'Comments'.

Sauce: A slang term meaning 'source', requesting the original source of an image/quote/character etc.

OOMF: Acronym meaning 'one of my followers' used on twitter.

ff.net: Shortform for 'Fanfiction.net', explained above.

Enstarries: The term for fans of Ensemble Stars!! that I've seen used frequently on twitter.

twt: Abbreviation for 'twitter'.

Pressed: From what I understand, this basically means 'overly frustrated at people on the internet'. I could be wrong, though - this is the newest term I've encountered.

tl: Abbreviation for 'timeline', the column of tweets you see by default upon logging into twitter. Consists typically of the tweets from the people you follow.

bs: Abbreviation for 'bullshit'.

Sexy Times With Wangxian: An infamous Mo Dao Zu Shi fanfiction that led to AO3 implemented a tag limit because many, many users were getting sick of scrolling past a giant wall of tags every time they encountered it. The author refused to stop tagging irrelevant things and the fic was eventually taken down.

dr*am/dream stan: Censoring is typically used on twitter to get around muted words OR to hide from fans of a particular media. Dream is a Minecraft Youtuber who is popular and opinions on him are a mixed bunch. Stan is an abbreviation of 'stalker fan' that has taken on a less negative meaning due to over-(incorrect)-use.

bg: Abbreviation for 'background'.

bbg: Acronym for 'baby girl'. I know vaguely what it means but can't quite explain it. From what I understand, it's effectively an affectionate, teasing and infinitesimally demeaning nickname. Like when you insult someone affectionately except 'bbg' is tied to specific qualities about the person.

Beta-reader: A 'beta-reader' is someone who reads over your writing and makes grammar/flow/characterisation corrections where needed. The writer can then edit their work before it is published.
